Horse riding in Sardinia

Discover Sardinia on horseback: guided tours on horseback or a romantic trot along kilometres of beautiful beaches or through the wild maquis – an intense and unforgettable way to explore the island with one of Europe’s last herds of wild horses.

Sardinia’s hilly expanse and endless beaches make it the perfect place to become one with nature and discover places that would otherwise remain unseen. And when the sun worshippers leave their beach posts in the evening, even beginners can gallop freely across the beach and along the shore.

Sardinia has a long tradition of horses, in which horse breeding continues to play a major role. At every corner there are riding stables with a wide array of services: from pony rides for children through multi-day tours of the wild, romantic mountain regions, all the way to bikini-clad horse riding along the beach.

Good to know:

The island’s inhabitants have a deep-rooted affinity to horses, which is especially evident at their spectacular riding festivals, such as S'Ardia di Sedilo, where Sardinians are keen to demonstrate their almost neck-breaking riding skills. Sardinia is one of the last regions in Europe where wild horses still roam free. One species, for example, is the famous Cavallini della Giara di Gesturi, miniature horses that can only be found in Sardinia.
