The tourist village of Portobello is located on Sardinia's northern coast across from the island of Corsica. About twenty years ago, 200 villas were constructed in a protected area with very strict rules and regulations regarding new buildings. The structures had to be a minimum of 3,000 square meters each and the indigenous maquis had to be left intact. Even in midsummer, the small sandy bay in front of the houses is mostly deserted. Portbello has a restaurant that is open year round and a grocery store. Other shopping options are available five kilometres away in Vignola and 18 kilometres away in the picturesque fishing village of Santa Teresa di Gallura.

Portobello is ideal for those in search of peace, quiet and rest, and it is also a place where aficionados of nature and unspoiled beaches find exactly what they are looking for. And if you need a change of pace, you can choose between long walks on the beach, fishing, tennis on the village's own courts, or you can rent a motorboat in Portobello's small harbour. This is also an excellent place for scuba divers as superb diving is close at hand in Santa Teresa di Gallura. Olbia on the Costa Smeralda and Porto Torres are about a one hour's drive.
