Cagliari, located in the south of the island, is Sardinia's capital city and is well worth a leisurely visit. It offers a number of cultural sights, shopping and restaurants. Only a few kolometres away from Cagliari you will find marvelous
lagoons and endless
sandy beaches where you can relax, stroll around or just sunbathe. A place where the stresses and strains of city life are easily forgotten.
One of Italy's longest beaches,
Poetto, is located just east of Cagliari. To get there, take Strada Urbana from Via Roma going east, which follows the coast most of the way, until you reach this fine sandy beach which seems to stretch into infinity. There is a small harbor at the southern end called Marina Picola where a lovely restaurant right on the beach provides delicious pasta to accompany the delights of watching and listening to the sea. Poetto is also popular among windsurfers and other water sports enthusiasts.
A few kilometers from Cagliari at the tip of Capo Elia lies the small beach,
Cala Mosca. This idyllic spot features an aquamarine bay encircled by a small reef and is a wonderful place to have your Sardinian cake and a fantastic beach with urban amenities just a beachball's throw away.
