Excursions
Alghero offers artful as well as archeological attractions of extraordinary beauty. The town centre is the most beautiful in Sardinia. Dating back to about 1300 A.D., it was characterised by massive town walls, refined historical palaces and old churches of Catalan origins. At the gates of the town, the necropolis of Anghelu Ruju and the nuraghic complex of Palmavera are an obligatory stop. In the nearby you can visit the ancient tomb of Santu Pedru, the Antiquarium in Porto Torres with findings from Roman excavations and the prehistoric altar of Monte d’Accoddi. From the port take a boat take to the Grotta di Nettuno, a cave system with different rock formations at the bottom of a towering cliff.
