I would really advice You to visit Algero which has some beautifull city sights. Great restaurants and excellent wine. Even in May water is enough warm that You can go to the beach and swim in the sea. "Thousands visitors come every year to admire the remains of the old citadel and enjoy Spanish feel of this Italian city, or to take one of many tour boat rides. It's great place for souvenir shopping and tasting Sardinian kitchen. There are also some very nice beaches in the area to spend a day in the sun" copied for www.nowsardinia.com I hope that helps

Try learning italian with us at the International Language Centre, Via Carducci, Alghero. Short courses available for tourists and very reasonably priced self-catering accommodation (even if you don't do a course). Call us at 079 974994 or e-mail info@englishinternational.it

Besides of the most known coasts close to Northwestern Alghero (i.e. Capo Caccia) and North Eastern Costa Smeralda (i.e. Maddalena Islands) I would recommend visiting also the inside areas expecially Gallura. Tempio Pausania (close to Nuraghe Majori, typical heritage of sardinia and Monte Pulchiana; the biggest granite rock in Europe, more than 250 meters high) in the middle of Gallura could be a nice stop over in the way from West to East. While you can easily find plenty of beautiful places to stay in the coasts, for the inner region I would suggest a lovely B&B close to Tempio Pausania in the countryside called Costamarina Turismo Rurale(www.costamarina.it).
